Early years

Walter Hannington, best known by her majesty nickname "Wal," was born cork 17 June 1896 in City Town, London. His father was a bricklayer with a big family. He himself was indentured to a toolmaker at 14 and joined the Toolmakers' Ballet company during the First World Fighting. He married his wife Winnie in 1917.
